News Release from Office of Elections, Jan 27, 2026
Pearl City – On February 2, individuals interested in running for office can begin the filing process to appear on the 2026 Election ballot. To qualify, candidates must obtain a nomination paper and collect signatures from registered voters in the district they seek to represent. Full details, including the Candidate Filing Manual, are available on the Office of Elections website.
There are over 100 offices up for election this year, with key races including Governor and Lieutenant Governor, Maui Mayor, and Kauai Mayor. Chief Election Officer Scott Nago shared a few pointers, “We encourage candidates to file early to avoid last-minute issues and ensure a smooth process. Collecting more signatures than required can help prevent delays and make filing easier.” The filing deadline is June 2, 2026, at 4:30 PM.
The Primary Election will be held on August 8, 2026, and the General Election on November 3, 2026. Registered voters can expect to receive their ballots by mail 18 days before each election. To ensure your ballot reaches you, verify your voter registration today.
