Skyline Service Suspended Between East Kapolei and Waipahu Due to Power Outages
News Release from City and County of Honolulu, March 13, 2026
HONOLULU – Skyline service has been temporarily suspended between the Kualakaʻi East Kapolei Station and the Pouhala Waipahu Transit Center Station due to ongoing power outages affecting portions of the system.
According to the Department of Transportation Services (DTS), traction power that propels the trains through the third rail on the guideway remains operational. However, several stations are currently operating on backup power due to the HECO outages.
The stations currently running on backup power include Keoneʻae UH West Oʻahu, Hōʻaeʻae West Loch, Pouhala Waipahu Transit Center, and Hālaulani Leeward Community College.
Skyline service between Hālaulani Leeward Community College Station and Kahauiki Kalihi Transit Center Station continues to operate normally with trains running at regular 10-minute frequencies.
To assist affected riders, TheBus is operating replacement “bus bridge” services in both eastbound and westbound directions between Kualakaʻi East Kapolei and Pouhala Waipahu Transit Center stations.
City officials are coordinating closely with Hawaiian Electric to restore full service as quickly as possible once power is fully restored.
Riders are encouraged to allow additional travel time and monitor Skyline and TheBus service alerts for updates.
