JULY 2026 VISITOR SPENDING AND ARRIVALS INCREASED

HONOLULU – Total spending by visitors in July 2026 was $1.99 billion (measured in nominal dollars), a 1.7 percent increase from July 2025, according to preliminary statistics from the Department of Business, Economic Development and Tourism (DBEDT). There were 883,248 total visitors in July 2026, up 1.1 percent from July 2025 (873,430 visitors). Visitors who came in July 2026 spent more on an average daily basis ($296 per person, +17.1%) than a year ago.
There were more total visitors in July 2026, however their average length of stay was shorter at 7.59 days, compared to 8.83 days (-14.1%) in July 2025. The statewide average daily censusin July 2026 was 216,319 visitors compared to 248,918 visitors
(-13.1%) in July 2025.
In July 2026, 487,506 visitors arrived from the U.S. West, a 2.0 percent growth from July 2025 (477,933 visitors). In July 2026, total spending by U.S. West visitors was $998.6 million, the average daily spending was $285 per person and the average length of stay was 7.18 days. In July 2025, U.S. West visitors recorded total spending of $942.0 million, the average daily spending was $233 per person and the average length of stay was 8.47 days.
In July 2026, there were 230,589 visitors from the U.S. East, a 4.0 percent growth from July 2025 (221,641 visitors). In July 2026, total spending by U.S. East visitors was $629.8 million, the average daily spending was $338 per person and the average length of stay was 8.09 days. In July 2025, U.S. East visitors recorded total spending of $622.2 million, the average daily spending was $292 per person and the average length of stay was 9.60 days.
In July 2026, 55,630 visitors arrived from Japan, a slight increase (+0.4%) from July 2025 (55,399 visitors). In July 2026, total spending by Japanese visitors was $82.2 million, the average daily spending was $245 per person and the average length of stay was 6.04 days. In July 2025, Japanese visitors recorded total spending of $81.3 million, the average daily spending was $244 per person and the average length of stay was 6.02 days.
In July 2026, 19,782 visitors arrived from Canada, a 2.7 percent growth from July 2025 (19,260 visitors). In July 2026, total spending by Canadian visitors was $48.5 million, the average daily spending was $232 per person and the average length of stay was 10.55 days. In July 2025, Canadian visitors recorded total spending of $48.3 million, the average daily spending was $231 per person and the average length of stay was 10.85 days.
There were 87,749 visitors from all other international markets in July 2026, which included visitors from Oceania, Other Asia, Europe, Latin America, Guam, the Philippines, the Pacific Islands and other countries. In comparison, there were 96,562 visitors (-9.1%) from all other international markets in July 2025.
Air capacity to Hawai‘i in July 2026 (5,745 transpacific flights with 1,233,505 seats) increased compared to July 2025 (5,314 flights, +8.1% with 1,162,101 seats, +6.1%).

Hawai‘i’s tourism in July 2026 recorded increases in total visitor spending and total visitor arrivals compared to the same month last year. Growth in visitor arrivals from U.S. West, U.S. East, Japan and Canada offset fewer visitors from other international markets.
Nearly three years after the Maui wildfires, there were 247,857 visitors to Maui in July 2026, a 5.6 percent increase from July 2025 (234,805 visitors). The July 2026 visitor counts represent an 83.4 percent recovery when compared to pre-wildfire July 2023 with 297,082 visitors. For the first seven months of 2026, there were 1,618,051 visitors on Maui, a 7.7 percent growth compared to year-to-date 2025, but 9.8 percent lower than the same period before the wildfires.
Note: Earlier this month, Tropical Storm Lala reached hurricane strength and caused significant damage in parts of Hawai‘i Island and affected other islands. Because the storm occurred in August, information on its effects on visitor spending and arrivals will be available after the August data is published in September.
