County seeking volunteers to serve on boards and commissions

Seats available for Fire, Police, Salary, Liquor Control, Maui Planning Commission and others

The County of Maui is recruiting volunteers for 77 seats for more than 30 boards and commissions, including the Maui Planning Commission, Police Commission, Fire and Public Safety Commission, Liquor Control Commission, Salary Commission, Urban Design Review Board and others.

Responsibilities include hearing public testimony, reviewing policies and standards and making recommendations. Positions are appointed by the mayor, confirmed by the Maui County Council and have terms lasting three to five years.

“Our community’s future is shaped by the voices, ideas and experiences of our residents,” said Mayor Richard Bissen. “Our volunteer boards and commissions members help guide the decisions that affect lives, strengthen government, and support vital County services. As a member, your voice matters - your experience matters. We have a critical need for boards and commissions volunteers whose insights and experiences will shape the County of Maui for generations to come.”

The deadline to submit applications for the next term is Nov. 11, 2026. Applications are also accepted year-round to fill vacancies. To view the current list of vacancies, descriptions of the boards and commissions, and to apply online, visit. www.mauicounty.gov/boards.
