News Release From US Army Public Affairs

WHAT: Heavy hitters spotlighted Sunday at Schofield Barracks youth baseball clinic

WHEN: Sunday, Dec. 11, 3-4 p.m.

WHO: Members of the National League's Miami Marlins, including mascot Billy the Marlin and the Marlins Mermaids dance troop

WHERE: Ralston Field, Schofield Barracks

DETAILS: Members of the Miami Marlins, featuring one of baseball's best young sluggers Mike Stanton, will conduct a baseball clinic in support of Army youth Sunday afternoon at Schofield Barracks. All openings for the Army youth clinic have been filled, but the event will be open to members of the media.

A dance clinic conducted by the Marlins' Mermaids dance troupe will also be held for young members of the Army community. The 22 year old Stanton, no doubt, will receive the most attention Sunday from the young baseball enthusiasts on hand. Last season Stanton slugged 34 home runs in his second major league season and is considered by baseball experts as a budding superstar.

Next April Stanton and his Marlin teammates, including new acquisitions shortstop Jose Reyes, closer Heath Bell and manager Ozzie Guillen, will move into the Marlins' new half-billion dollar retractable-roofed stadium. The appearance in support of the Army Family Covenant and the Schofield community is presented by Armed Forces Entertainment.
