Djou Files Papers to Run for Congress
By Rep Charles Djou @ 8:26 PM :: 5555 Views :: Energy, Environment

From www.Djou.com

Yesterday, with my wife and family by my side, I officially filed the paperwork to to run for the U.S. House of Representatives for Hawaii's 1st Congressional District. We are off and running!

Yesterday's announcement follows a week of public events that led up to our filing. Stacey and I were on KGU radio last week Wednesday; I was honored to speak at two different Rotary Clubs this past Thursday and Friday; and then deliver the keynote address at the Hawaii Republican Convention on Saturday.

Today, as we look around Hawaii and America, we know the enormity of the problems we face. Our economy is growing too slowly, unemployment remains too high and our debt is too large. We all know someone who is looking for a job, but can’t find one; who has had to sell their home, who is relying on credit cards to get by. We see business after business closing here, gas prices rising, and our politicians can’t seem to stop fighting long enough to solve our nation’s problems. There are some who say that we can’t make a difference; that the machine is too strong; that things will never change.

But war changes you. I know it has changed me. I’ll never accept saying to the widow of a soldier who made the ultimate sacrifice that our nation’s problems are just too hard to solve. I’ll never tolerate our telling the child of a fallen soldier that we’ll accept less than the very best from our nation’s leaders.

We can made a difference, but only with your help. Will you consider joining me at our Campaign Kick-off event next week:

  • Wednesday, May 23, 2012
  • 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
  • Manoa Grand Ballroom at the Japanese Cultural Center
  • 2454 S. Beretania Street
  • Suggested Donation $100

If you cannot join us, please consider making a contribution today of $25, $50 or $100.

Let's get started on winning this race. I look forward to seeing you in person next week or on the campaign trail soon.

Aloha,

Charles K. Djou
