Prevedouros: Case, Carlisle panic
By News Release @ 4:27 PM :: 9770 Views :: Maui County, Education K-12, Energy, Environment

Last night's debate is sending shockwaves throughout the political community. Our opponents have outspent us 7:1, yet last night, the people supported Panos by 7:1.  The waves of panic spread so strong that the beleaguered Ed Case had to send out an email asking people to not vote for Panos. We couldn't have gotten a better validation of how we will put an end to the status quo and we thank Mr. Case for his confirmation.

Statement from Panos Prevedouros:

"This morning, Peter Carlisle sent Ed Case's note telling supporters not to vote for me-- to all of Carlisle's supporters -- in effect, Carlisle has now joined Case in suppressing the vote."*

"This is Democracy?"

"I'd like to say both are desperate men, but that is not the point.  Carlisle and Case have insulted the voting public."

*To quote Carlisle's favorite research source, Wikipedia:

Voter suppression is a strategy to influence the outcome of an election by discouraging or preventing people from exercising their right to vote. It is distinguished from political campaigning in that campaigning attempts to change likely voting behavior by changing the opinions of potential voters through persuasion and organization. Voter suppression instead attempts to reduce the number of voters who might vote against the candidate or proposition advocated by the suppressors.

The tactics of voter suppression can range from minor "dirty tricks" that make voting inconvenient, up to blatantly illegal activities that physically intimidate prospective voters to prevent them from casting ballots.

"Last minute smears of opposing candidates is a favorite of the unpleasant side of Honolulu politics. A new twist on "the smear" was made after last night's televised debate when Ed Case, no longer a candidate for any office, sent an email urging people not to vote for me, because I might undermine the ability of his preferred candidate to win."

"This is the same argument that was made by the same Mr. Case of Senate President Hanabusa during the special election. He was wrong then.  And he is wrong now."

Prosecutor Peter Carlisle forwarded Mr. Case's E Newsletter
