In a statement McDermott said:

“It is with great humility that I offer my skill and talents to the residents of Council District one.   Departing councilman Apo has done a great job of listening and fighting for our District, he has left big shoes to fill.  He served us with distinction.

“The people are entitled to someone who can vigorously pick up where he left off; continue to work on closing the landfill, funding road improvements and providing oversight for the largest public works projects in our state history – rail.  Provided the opportunity, I will serve the people earnestly and tackle these challenges in a workman like fashion to the best of my ability.  To that end, my legislative priorities will be as follows:

  • Economic Recovery via the expediting of rail, other city CIP, and private construction projects.
  • Traffic relief through road construction and repairs; to include an emergency by-pass road for the Leeward Coast stretching from Waianae to Makaha.
  • Rehabilitation/Renovation of our parks and comfort stations.
  • Work to reduce waste stream with GOAL of closing all Oahu land fills and exporting fill if possible.

“In the coming campaign, my responsibility will be to galvanize the community behind these ideas and my offer to once again be their humble servant”.
