Djou: “Our internal polls show us with a narrow lead”
By Rep Charles Djou @ 7:24 PM :: 10137 Views :: Maui County, Education K-12, Energy, Environment, National News, Ethics
|
Our internal polls now show us with a narrow lead, and a recent poll by a left wing blog shows our opponent with a razor thin lead. In either case, our race is very close.

|
“Today marks the start of a new Federal fiscal year. Congress just closed one of the most fiscally irresponsible sessions in modern American history, spending an inordinate amount of money, running an unprecedented budget deficit—without turning the economy around."

Last night, even though I was in Washington, D.C., I was able to talk with over 3,000 residents in my district, my "bosses" in Hawaii's First Congressional District. I heard from you about your concerns on many issues: from jobs, to the economy, to taxes, healthcare and the size of government.

Djou: HR2378 will hurt Chinese tourism in Hawaii
By Rep Charles Djou @ 12:20 PM :: 14437 Views :: Maui County, Education K-12, Energy, Environment, National News, Ethics, World News, Family
|
“No one denies that the current valuation of Chinese currency is troubling and remedial actions must be taken. While I support a free-floating currency exchange between the United States and China, this legislation will not affect the trade deficit and will not create American jobs. Instead, this bill would hurt more than it would help our nation and Hawai‘i.
“This measure will harm U.S.-China relations, hurt international commerce and, most troubling for Hawai‘i, impair the emerging Chinese visitor market in Hawaii."

Djou votes against $14,457,000,000 in new taxes
By Rep Charles Djou @ 5:59 PM :: 12093 Views :: Maui County, Education K-12, Energy, Environment, National News, Ethics
|
“Instead of taking the simple step of offering small businesses the assurance that their taxes will not go up in a matter of months, this bill deepens our nation’s debt and provides no long-term incentives to create jobs. In fact, this bill permanently raises taxes by nearly $14.5 billion dollars. We cannot tax our way out of recession.

By Rep Charles Djou @ 8:21 PM :: 13764 Views :: Maui County, Education K-12, Energy, Environment, National News, Ethics, World News, Family
|
“Nine years ago, amid the confusion, shock and rubble, we witnessed something remarkable unfold. Out of the ashes, American courage and charity emerged. Our resilience as a people was tested and strained, but it did not break. We came together and rose above the pettiness that so often marks our day-to-day reality."

Djou: Heroes in uniform deserve credit for success in Iraq
By Rep Charles Djou @ 6:12 PM :: 13887 Views :: Maui County, Education K-12, Energy, Environment, National News, Ethics, World News, Family
|
“Today marks a historic and monumental shift—and we have our brave men and women in uniform to thank for that. The progress made in Iraq has been difficult and undeniable. It is remarkable to reflect on how far Iraq has come from a nation ruled by a tyrant to a functioning democracy in the heart of the Arab Middle East. This is what our courageous troops have accomplished.

Djou in WSJ--“Birthright Citizenship: A GOP Achievement”
By Rep Charles Djou @ 1:55 PM :: 11367 Views :: Maui County, Education K-12, Energy, Environment, National News, Ethics
|
I am the child of immigrants, a citizen by birth, and at age 39 I proudly placed my hand on the Bible and swore to protect our Constitution as a member of the U.S. Congress. My story is not unique. For more than 200 years our ancestors abandoned their homes and risked their lives to come here, work hard, and provide a better life for their families. The opportunity to do so is part of what makes our country the greatest on Earth.
I understand that our immigration system is broken and share the frustration of so many Americans with our porous borders. America needs comprehensive immigration reform; it is critical to our nation's future. But it is simply unrealistic to believe that we can fix the problem by amending the Constitution.
